Abstract
Foodservice provider Bidfood has launched its ‘Better 4 Me’ dessert range, which includes a number of 300 calorie, vegan and free-from sweets treats for “health-conscious consumers.”

Capitalising on the trend for “alternative diets” – 542,000 Brits now following a vegan diet and 54% having bought a free-from product in the first three months of 2017 – the collection targets “diners who want to make healthy lifestyle choices but don’t want to miss out on an occasional treat.”

For those watching the calories, the lemon and raspberry ginger crunch, chocolate and berry truffle, torte, and chocolate orange mousse cake all contain less than 300 calories per portion, while vegans can enjoy the vegan coconut and chocolate tart, vegan apple and plum tart and chocolate and olive oil cake

Rachel Cook, category manager at Bidfood, said: “All too often we hear about operators missing out on potential ‘pudding profits’ as they’re not tailoring their menus to meet the changing needs of consumers.

“Over the past few years, we’ve seen a surge in demand for ‘healthier’ and free-from dessert options. Consumers are increasingly aware of their health and their food choices, but at the same time they don’t want to miss out on an occasional treat.

“The Better 4 Me dessert range answers this need. It offers consumers an indulgent treat but with the added benefit of being inclusive for all, regardless of lifestyle choice.”
