Abstract
The new head of the British Hospitality Association (BHA) Ufi Ibrahim is to launch its Hospitality Economy Partnership at the House of Commons on October 12th
The Hospitality Economy Partnership is the BHA's response to the Coalition Government's 'Big Society' call offering the private sector an opportunity to form a pragmatic partnership with government at the national and local levels to drive economic growth. At the launch, Ibrahim will present a report on the economic importance of the hospitality industry that will include 'measurable, achievable and deliverable objectives' for both the industry and the public sector. She will tell the audience of BHA members, industry partners, senior government officials and media that the Hospitality Economy Partnership is the BHA's 'business proposition' for government, designed to position the hospitality industry as a leader in the drive to build the UK economy and shape policies. They will be told it will form the basis for policies affecting hospitality (both commercial and public) in areas such as investment, fiscal policy, health and nutrition, employment and education, as well as carbon reduction commitments. Also, that it will define the impact of hospitality on jobs, GDP, investment and the hospitality industry's contribution to the exchequer. With the 2012 Olympics in London now less than two years away she will add that a vibrant tourism sector is dependent on a thriving hospitality industry and if hospitality is to thrive it needs a supportive regulatory framework and the removal of barriers to competitive growth. Ibrahim will be joined by BHA President Sir David Michels and the event will be sponsored on behalf of the BHA by John Thurso, MP for Caithness, Sutherland & Easter Ross.
