Abstract
National Shortbread Day takes place today (6 January) as bakers across the country celebrate the biscuit.

Shortbread has grown 16.8% in value year on year, according to CSM Bakery Solutions. The latest data shows more people are buying the biscuit, especially during the festive season.

Shortbread regularly appears in popular culture featuring during the Great British Bake Off’s biscuit week and Coronation Street star Andrew Whyment ordered shortbread as his treat on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Shortbread is a varied biscuit that can be used for decorated cookies, choc chip and traditional Scottish shortbread.

Holly Wales, category manager at CMS Solutions, said: “National Shortbread Day is a chance to celebrate one of the nation’s favourite biscuits.

“Shortbread has seen a resurgence over the last year and we expect this trend to continue into 2020. The Baker & Baker Triple Chocolate Shortbread is the simplest way to offer delicious shortbread with minimal effort or skill required."
