Abstract
The National Farmers Union (NFU) invites members, MPs, caterers and the public to show their support for British farming during its Back British Farming Day on September 14th ‘to celebrate all the great things about our industry’.

It is the seventh annual Back British Farming Day and, as in previous years, the NFU is asking MPs to wear its iconic wheatsheaf lapel pin badge to show their support for British farming.

NFU president Minette Batters said: “British farmers and growers are often pillars of their communities. Whether it’s maintaining the landscapes people love to visit, helping neighbours in times of extreme weather or fundraising for local charities, NFU members often go the extra mile.

“With the help of MPs we're recognising and celebrating their invaluable contributions.”

The NFU’s communications team will be making sure that broadcast and print press and social media channels are supplied with plenty of content celebrating British farming.

It will also be sharing more than 3,000 photos that members of the public have sent in as part of the NFU’s Best of British Farming photo competition.

In previous years the Prime Minister, leader of the opposition and senior politicians have worn their wheatsheaf lapel pin badges during debates and Prime Minister’s Questions.

There will also be an announcement of the overall regional winners in the inaugural Community Farming Hero awards at the NFU-hosted event in Westminster on Back British Farming Day. They have been chosen from nominations by MPs of members in their constituencies who have ‘gone above and beyond’ for their local community.
