BA to scrap short-haul meals in £22m saving exercise

On short-haul flights of less than two and a half hours, BA will continue to offer breakfast up until 10am, and a complimentary bar and snacks service after that. The changes have been made as part of a review to reduce costs and waste in what the airline called "tough economic times". A spokesman said: "When you fly with British Airways the inflight catering is top class and, unlike some other airlines, it is free. It is not unusual to make small changes to avoid waste and save money where is makes sense and it meets customers' changing tastes." The spokesman added that some of the changes to the catering service have been implemented on Gatwick flights and that the same measures could be successfully applied to Heathrow. British Airways insisted it was not aligning itself with its 'no frills' competitors saying it remains a "full service airline".
