Athletic star Colin Jackson visits Gay Elms Primary to discuss school dinners

Jackson, who will be at the school at 12.10pm on Thursday, 4th February, will make the visit after meeting the School Food Trust's legion of voluntary ambassadors who are working in the regions to promote the healthier food on offer in schools and innovative ways to improve the lunchtime experience. Jackson will be joined by the School Food Trust's new chair, Rob Rees, who lives in Gloucestershire and whose appointment was announced earlier this week by the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls. He said: "It's fantastic to have this opportunity to meet other school food champions from all over the country who are working in so many different ways to achieve the same aim. We're all here because of the big role that nutritious school lunches can play in improving children's health, and to encourage more families to give them a try. "Whoever you are and whatever you do, it's really important to know how to prepare yourself to perform at your best - both physically and mentally. That's exactly why good school food is so crucial for kids." Rees, added: "Our team of local school food ambassadors are absolutely key in sharing the creative ideas that schools are testing, to deliver lunches that not only meet the new standards but also capture children's enthusiasm for great food. Coupled with the influence of head teachers, we hope ambassadors can inspire their communities. Gay Elms Primary is part of the School Food Trust's Million Meals campaign, which offers schools a range of free resources to help make the small changes which can make a huge difference to children's lunchtimes.
