Alongside local supplier Convivas Brasil, which already provides a range of services for stadia and events within the South American country, will be catering for both FIFA’s Confederations Cup event later this year and its major World Cup competition in 2014.
The agreement follows a public tender process that involved 17 foodservice providers, the majority from Brazil.
Under the terms of the agreement Aramark and Convivas will manage concessions and workforce catering at the six FIFA Confederations Cup stadia and the 12 FIFA World Cup stadia, creating approximately 6,000 jobs initially rising to more than 10,000 for the World Cup next year.
FIFA marketing director Thierry Weil said: “Aramark’s experience providing similar services for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2005 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany along with other premier sporting events, such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics, will be vital in ensuring the successful delivery of this highly complex food and beverage programme.
“The matchday experience of fans at the FIFA Confederations Cup and FIFA World Cup is of utmost importance to FIFA.
“Having such experienced partners working with us will ensure that fans attending the stadia have a high quality choice of food and drink.
“But equally important is the large number of jobs which are being created by Aramark and Convivas in Brazil. The food and beverage operation gives us the opportunity to employ and train thousands of Brazilian workers with the aim of leaving a positive legacy in the food services industry in the host nation.
Marc Bruno, president of Aramark Sports and Entertainment, said: “The FIFA World Cup is one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events and we are honoured to be awarded the opportunity to manage the food and beverage services for it and this summer’s FIFA Confederations Cup.
“We look forward to utilising our global culinary insights and expertise and working with FIFA and our partner, Convivas, to develop a world-class menu that enhances the experience for football fans attending the matches."
The menus will showcase a variety of international options and distinctive Brazilian tastes and flavours, giving visitors from all over the world the opportunity to experience local and regional cuisine, such as Acarajé in Salvador, Feijão Tropeiro in Belo Horizonte and Bolo de Rolo in Recife.
In addition to hiring and training a local workforce, ARAMARK and Convivas are committed to working with local Brazilian service providers.
