Abstract
Contract caterer Aramark has won the prestigious Healthy Choice Award for its eatery at the RAF Benson site in Oxfordshire.
Established in 2005 by the South Oxfordshire District Council in Wallingford, the annual award recognises businesses which have achieved high standards in food hygiene and followed industry good practice. The Council named the RAF Benson Eagles Club as "one of the most hygienic eateries it had visited with exceptional staff development programmes in place". After attaining the Hygiene status within the award criteria in September 2008, the team has been asked to apply for the remaining category, Healthy Eating. Karin McMahon, Eagles Bar manager at Aramark, explained: "The seven members of the Aramark team at the base worked diligently to demonstrate that cleanliness and food hygiene is of utmost importance. In order to attain the hygiene status within the award criteria, we looked at every hygiene process within the restaurant. This meant scrutinising food preparation and looking at storage and stock rotation to meet the requirements and every process was strictly monitored by the Council. "Thankfully, each staff member was passionate about working as a team to achieve this and it became a personal challenge for everyone. We are delighted to have all our hard work realised and we are already looking ahead to the next challenge – the Healthy Eating category!"
