The webinar will also feature Clare Hunt from the Apetito care homes team, Apetito dietitian Emily Stuart and Ian Mortimer Apetito’s group technical manager who oversees all elements of food safety and allergen controls.
Food allergies are prevalent, with a rising two million people in the UK alone living with one and a 500% increase in hospital admissions due to food allergies over the last 30 years. It can be considered likely that most care homes will encounter a resident living with a food allergy on a regular basis.
Tanya said: “Many people do feel isolated and misunderstood when seeking help, and we have found that care home professionals have often not received specific allergy training. Although we know that things are changing and allergen conversations are taking place more openly, it’s vital that we continue raising awareness and understanding to drive the further positive change required.”
Webinar attendees will also learn more about Apetito’s free from meals range which offers food that is free from all 14 of the major allergens without compromising taste or flavour.
Richard Woodward, general manager for care homes at Apetito, added: “As one of the UK’s leading care home meals providers, we know how important it is to ensure residents with allergies are effectively catered for. Allergies are something that must be taken extremely seriously, which is why we see the importance in testing a sample from every batch of gluten-free and free from meals in our accredited, on-site laboratory.
“We’re delighted to have Tanya join Emily and Iain for a really interesting and informative discussion about the importance of the allergy process, challenges care homes face in ensuring their meals are safe for residents and the groundbreaking work that The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation is pioneering and driving on a global level when it comes to allergy medical research.”
