Zip World Velocity, at Penrhyn Quarry, Bethesda, in Wales, involves flying head-first down the mountain for just under a mile, exceeding speeds of 100mph, and then over a cliff 500ft above a quarry lake, offering panoramic views across Snowdonia.
Chief executive Paul Freeston, marketing and development director Ian Stone, and director of public policy and external affairs Lee Sheppard took up the challenge on December 14th.
Paul Freeston, chief executive at Apetito, said: “Our first attempt at tackling Velocity was thwarted due to adverse weather conditions – however, our second attempt was successful. We journeyed to Snowdonia and travelled up the mountainside in the back of a truck – until we reached the start of the zip wire.
“After overcoming some nerves, we all managed to complete the ‘Big Zipper’. It was a truly incredible experience, and we are so thankful to those that sponsored us; with their kind and generous donations we have been able to smash our fundraising target and support the charities and the important work they do.
“As a company, we work very closely with older and often more vulnerable individuals, and dementia sadly affects many thousands of families every year. We want to show our commitment to the work that the Alzheimer’s charities undertake.”
2015 was the first year that Apetito had dedicated ‘charities of the year’ and it is confirmed that the company will continue supporting both for a second year during 2016.
