Anglia Crown British Frozen Food Federation award winner
Abstract
Anglia Crown’s frozen beef lasagne from the Crown Advantage range, produced for caterers in the hospital and care market, stormed the British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF) awards by winning gold in the Best New Main Course category and securing a finalist placing in the Catering Product of the Year category.

Managing Director Nick Clarke said: “We are delighted to win such a prestigious industry award for our Crown Advantage Beef Lasagne.

“Graham Thornton and his team developed a market leading product which is both nutritious and appetising.

“Our removable base concept challenges traditional ready meal packaging in the UK and we are delighted to be recognised by such an eminent award.”

Judges were looking for products that delivered; great eating quality, appealing appearance, recipe integrity, product dependability, ease of preparation and service and packaging ease of handling from outer case to finished product.

Judged by representatives of the Craft Guild of Chefs, both the quality and packaging concept of the lasagne were noted for outstanding merit.

The lasagne, developed at Anglia Crown’s Colchester kitchen, is individually portioned to help reduce waste and is packaged in the company’s innovative ‘smartpack’ and developed using patient feedback.

The distinctive removable base enables each prepared meal to be removed perfectly through the bottom of the packaging without any disruption to the presentation or constitution of the meal.

The lasagne packaging also features a steam valve to allow ventilation during the heating process and help to reduce dehydration and shrinkage.
