Abstract
Amphire, the provider of e-commerce and purchasing services to the hospitality and foodservice industries, have announced today that it has agreed a deal to purchase barbox, the online ordering service for the licensed trade, for an undisclosed figure.
The companies will offer an online range of food, drinks, consumables and other goods relevant to the hospitality industry, with order values set to rise to a massive £1 billion per year. Jason Ridley, Amphire UK's general manager, discussed the future's potential growth as a result of this deal: "This acquisition dramatically increases our capability overnight. With increased investment into our state of the art technology platform and the combined industry knowledge of the two terms, we'll be ideally placed to help operators and licensees run their businesses more efficiently and cost effectively." Duncan Malyon, managing director at barbox, commented on his excitement of the future prospects: "This deal is great news for customers. It cements the company's independence within our industry, and improves the offering. In particular, Amphire's considerable experience with foodservive will be especially useful as more and more of the trade turns towards food." Barbox, who was previously in partnership with Coors Brewers and Scottish & Newcastle, handles weekly orders worth up to £8 million per week. Amphire handles in excess of 850,000 transactions each year to hospitality companies and foodservice operators in the UK. Jason Ridley, Amphire's general manager, predicted: "It is our vision to increase our UK transactions to 2.5 million annually at a value of over £2 billion over the next three years."
