Allergy Aware Kitchen rolls out training course across UK
Abstract
Allergy Aware Kitchen is holding a ‘Food Allergy Awareness & EU Food Allergen Law’ seminar at five locations across the UK in March 2015 in order to help food service businesses meet the new government legislation.

The seminar will visit Berkshire on March 2nd; Derbyshire on March 4th; Greater Manchester on March 6th; Birmingham on March 10th; and Devon on March 12th.

The Food Information Regulations EU1169/2011 came into force on December 13th 2014. The new law applies to all types of restaurants, cafés, delis, pubs, hotels and catering companies, who will have to ensure they can provide allergen information to their customers, when asked.

Liz Allan, founder of the Allergy Aware Kitchen, said: “This change in regulations is of vital important to the 4.5 million people in the UK who have a food allergy or intolerance - people are seeking safe places to eat and drink.

“Becoming compliant with new law isn’t as difficult as many think. It also represents a fantastic opportunity for businesses of all sizes in a rapidly growing market.”

The new allergen regulation means that all food service companies need to provide information to their customers about the EU top 14 allergens contained in their dishes. These are gluten, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, sulphur dioxide, eggs, molluscs, crustaceans, sesame, mustard, celery, lupin and soya. For some people eating one or more of these foods can cause them to become seriously ill, or even in extreme cases to die.

Allergy Aware Kitchen has developed an interactive training course suitable for business owners, managers, chefs, kitchen and front of house staff to ensure food service businesses not only comply with the regulations but also have the information necessary to transform their food service and kitchen processes and to cater for the needs and requirements of food allergy guests.
