Abstract
Italian celebrity chef Aldo Zilli has announced he will be stepping in to replace Antonio Carluccio at this year’s Wigan Food and Drink Festival.
Carluccio will be unable to carry out his planned engagements due to ill health.
Zilli was due to demonstrate in the Kitchen Theatre on the afternoon of Wednesday March 9 and, in the evening, host Antonio Carluccio's Italian Feast at Rigalettos Restaurant, Wigan.
The 'World on a Plate' Italian Cookery Demonstration at Wigan Outdoor Market Kitchen Theatre (2pm) and the Italian Evening Event at Rigalettos will, however, still take place. Festival organiser Keith Bergman from Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust said: "It is very unfortunate that Antonio cannot make it to Wigan and he has passed on his sincere apologies. "We all wish him a speedy recovery and we hope that he will come visit us at a future festival. We are pleased and excited that Aldo Zilli will be stepping in to ensure that the events take place. "I know that Aldo will be just as entertaining and informative as Antonio and that the events will be as memorable."
The 10 day festival (March 3 – 13), sponsored by Hitchen Foods includes the Wigan CAMRA Beer Festival, the Wigan Outdoor Market Kitchen Theatre, a fine Food Trail and a programme of 15 Food and Drink themed events.
