The potatoes, equivalent to 2,381,000 meals, have been redistributed to charities across England and Scotland to help support vulnerable communities through the Covid-19 pandemic.
John Heginbottom, sales and marketing director at Albert Bartlett, said: “Albert Bartlett has been working with FareShare since 2006 and we are delighted to be able to help out during the pandemic in particular.
“Our jacket potato outlets, Spud you Like and The Great Potato, are closed during lockdown and we are very happy to redistribute the potatoes through FareShare's network.”
FareShare welcomes this support from Albert Bartlett, which comes at a difficult and challenging time for charities working to fight hunger. Potatoes are versatile and packed with vitamin C, potassium and iron.
Teresa McGoldrick, regional food officer for FareShare Scotland, added: “Now more than ever it’s crucial we ensure vulnerable people can access good quality, nutritious food.
“We know these potatoes will be hugely welcomed by the many varied community organisations we serve across Scotland and the UK, helping support thousands of people currently struggling to put food on the table.”
