Abstract
7 Day Catering, the contract catering company, has achieved the Investors in People (IIP) status, an incentive designed to help organisations improve their business performance through its people.
Assessment is based on first hand evidence from staff interviews. Businesses who sign up to Investors in People make a commitment to the development and training of their staff in order to meet organisational goals and objectives. The standard is based on 10 key performance indicators, however, 7 Day Catering asked for two additional staff groups to be reviewed; Unit Managers, who at local level, are the face of the business and the people dealing on a day-to-day basis with clients; together with staff on TUPE arrangements, of which there are approximately 1,000, with this figure set to increase as new contracts are won. Estelle Warwick, assessor, Investors in People commented: "I conducted over 150 face to face interviews with staff at 7 Day Catering. There are numerous examples of good practice within the business. The enthusiasm amongst staff for what they are doing at the units is commendable; they take great pride in providing good food and service to their customers. "Staff genuinely respect their Unit Manager. They describe how that respect has been earned through fair treatment, open and honest two-way communication and a willingness to get their hands dirty and join in." Lindsey Buckley, HR Director, 7 Day Catering, added: "We are extremely proud to have been recognised for achieving the Investors in People Standard. Recognition reflects the hard work and commitment of both the staff and management team. "We are especially delighted because the standard is a very challenging one to meet; however, we are committed to the ongoing development and training of both existing and new staff and to providing our customers with the best possible service."
