Abstract
3663 First for Foodservice has introduced a new brochure that focuses not only on children's products but also includes hints and tips on catering for children.
In order to identify kids' favourite meals for its new food selection, 3663 conducted research among two groups of children to identify the top dishes that children really want to eat.
Catherine Hinchcliff, marketing controller at 3663, commented on the results: "It was really fascinating to see how children responded to different dishes. We divided the children into groups aged four to seven, and eight to 12. "Each child was given a voting card, which they used to indicate their like or dislike for a particular dish. The insight we gained from it was invaluable and ranged from portion sizes, presentation of food to menus and eating habits." "Children's taste preferences and menu choices have changed dramatically as they visit more foreign shores with parents and guardians. Delicacies such as Chinese, Thai, Indian and Mexican have become a staple in most children's favourite foods. Every 10th order placed by nine to 12 year olds will feature a Chinese dish. Caterers need to take this into consideration when planning a menu for a younger target market."
3663's new 'Just Children' brochure contains a number of suggestions based on the tasting sessions and divides products into four simple and clearly marked categories – recommended for under 8s; suitable for over 8s; healthy choices and kids' favourites.
