When re-elected in February this year to lead the National Farmers Union (NFU) as its president, Minette Batters pledged its efforts to ‘provide the nation with high-quality, climate-friendly and affordable food for generations to come’. In this position she represents more than 46,000 farmers across England and Wales.
In her time in office she has co-founded the campaigning initiatives ‘Ladies in Beef’ and the ‘Great British Beef Week’. She has also agreed a target for the NFU to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
In August she welcomed the public sector catering food and catering consultation from Defra.
Campaigning about the importance of British food and farming has been a key driver for Minette throughout her time at the NFU. In 2020 she created a food standards petition, which received support from Jamie Oliver and achieved over 1m signatures.
