Naturalist, television presenter and author Chris Packham delivered a keynote speech at this year’s Public Sector Catering Expo, looking at the impact of climate change on the environment, wildlife and food system.
He suggested ways in which we, as individuals, as well as companies, organisations and Governments can change the food system from farm to fork in ways to mitigate any negative impact on the environment.
Chris has since become an ambassador for ProVeg’s School Plates programme, which helps school caterers to introduce more plant-based options on their lunch menus. ProVeg has made over 6.4m school meals healthier and more sustainable by becoming plant-based.
He said: “One of the things that we can do relatively easily here in the UK is change what we eat. There’s no ambiguity about the fact that we need to be eating less meat.”
