Abstract
Foods from Spain have revealed the winner of its National Primary Schools competition.
Pupils from North Yorkshire primary school North Duffield won the challenge with their 'Say Ole to 5-a-day' collage, which unveils a dancer wearing a dress covered in Spanish fruit and vegetables. The challenge for asked classes in years three to six from all primary schools in the UK to produce a collage that represented 'Healthy eating with fresh fruit and vegetables from Spain' using materials from glossy magazines to dried fruit and nuts. The winning school has received a cheque for £3,000 to spend on equipment or facilities for the school. Maria Jose Sevilla, director of Foods from Spain, said: "Educating children about including fruit and vegetables in their diet is increasing y important, and the competition really focussed the minds of teachers, parents and pupils about eating well – and the role Spanish fresh produce has to play in doing so." All 500 schools that entered the National Primary Schools Competition received a certificate from the Spanish Ambassador. The National Primary Schools Competition was launched in April last year as a generic element in Foods from Spain's 2008 promotion for fresh Spanish fruit and vegetables.
