TUCO unveils ‘Tipping Point’ theme for Summer Conference
Abstract
This year’s TUCO Summer Conference, which is taking place at the University of Exeter from 29-31st July, has announced that its theme is ‘Tipping Point’, the idea that the smallest of changes can shift the climate balance.

Looking forward to the event, TUCO chief executive Mike Haslin said: “We are at this tipping point, and if we don’t make our changes now, we won’t be able to make the big differences needed to swing the climate scales for good.

“The theme is inspired by host University of Exeter. The team there have collected research which shows how areas such as agriculture, politics, public opinion, and more, can all be combined to create positive change. Professor Peter Cox from the University of Exeter will explain more as he kicks off our series of keynote speeches.

“We are also delighted to welcome back Dr Morgaine Gaye, who spoke at conference back in 2015 at Imperial College London. Dr Gaye is a Food Futurologist who looks at food and eating from a social, cultural, economic, trend, branding and geo-political perspective. Her keynote speech is titled Future Aspirations & Consumer Landscapes 2030 and will demonstrate disruptive moments which we can expect to develop in the coming years.

“Day one will close with sessions from Erin Ling, Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Work, Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI who will be talking Putting People at the Heart of AI, and Andi Jarvis, founder of Eximo Marketing to discuss the bad marketing decisions people make, why they make them and how you can use this to make better marketing decisions.

“On Day two we kick off with British Behaviour Insight Adviser Jez Rose - the best-selling author of Flip the Switch. His celebrated TEDx talks, television work, and weekly YouTube content have garnered more than 20m views. This exciting session will delve into applying behavioural psychology to improve leadership, maximise engagement and enhance culture.

“Other speakers include Kris Hall, Burnt Chef Project, on The Key to Productivity & Retention, and Olajide Alabi, co-creator - SISU, Brave, Honest, Curious: A Blueprint for Cultivating Inclusive Excellence. Former Royal Marine Commando and Special Forces Sergeant Jason Fox - co-lead of Channel 4’s award-winning show ‘SAS: Who Dares Wins’ - will close the conference with a not-to-be-missed session on Building Mental Resilience.

“We’re also introducing a new concept for 2024 - Chef’s Live Theatre. It has a programme of chefs demonstrating skills and new dish ideas for you to take back to your campus. Of course, no Conference is a TUCO Conference without the work hard/play hard balance, and the team at Exeter have organised some brilliant evening entertainment (including a kick off night themed The Greatest Circus) and are looking forward to wowing everyone with their culinary delights.”
