Staffordshire schools awarded today for healthy meals

23rd Sep 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
Schools across Staffordshire are being awarded today for their efforts to be healthy.
Establishments being awarded include All Saints Church of England C Primary School, Rangemore, Scotch Orchard Primary School, Lichfield, Walton Hall Community Special School, Eccleshall, and St Mary's CE Primary School, Colton. These schools will be recognised for their efforts at an awards ceremony today at 2.30pm at County Buildings, Stafford. All Staffordshire's schools are aiming to achieve National Healthy Schools Status, a national long-term initiative which is hoping to make a difference to the health and achievement of children and young people. They have worked closely with Staffordshire County Council and local Primary Care Trusts to achieve National Healthy Schools Status, which promotes the link between physical and emotional well-being within the whole school community. Currently over 200 of the county's schools have already successfully gained the status with the remainder working hard towards it. The Programme recognises the achievement of schools in four areas and focuses on four key themes: personal, social and health education, healthy eating, physical activity and emotional health and well-being. Robert Simpson, deputy lead county councillor, commented: "These schools have shown that they have invested in being healthy and are dedicated to ongoing improvement and development in this area, equipping pupils with the skills and attitudes to help them make informed decisions about their health."
