Somerset hosts first food festival this weekend

Somerset's first food and drink event will be kicking off this weekend (8-9 March) at the Bath & West Showground, and will be showcasing a host of local food and drink producers, cookery demonstrations and competitions.
Over 70 exhibitors will be on display at 'The Spring Festival Food and Drink, as well as celebrity chefs from Crown Hotel, Charlton House, Wells Blue School and Paul Hartley, who will be found in the cookery theatre preparing dishes such as cannon of lamb, marinated belly of pork, sweet and sour chicken, and a fish dish. Clir Alvin Horsfall, Somerset County Council's portfolio holder for economic development, commented on the event: "With Blue Tongue, Avian Flu and Foot and Mouth, it has been an extremely challenging time recently for farmers and rural businesses." The event is organised by the Royal Bath & West of England Society and supported by South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) and Somerset Food Links. Doors will be open from 10am until 4pm and tickets cost £5.
