Abstract
The Seafish Authority is calling for entries for its Seafood Awards 2009. Now in its third year, these biennial awards are aimed at inspiring enterprise and innovation throughout the seafood industry.
Fourteen award categories encompass all sectors of the industry and include seafood restaurant, seafood pub, seafood chef, encouraging children to eat seafood and best new seafood products, to name just a few, and there are opportunities to put forward nominees from sectors ranging from restaurants to processing, fishmongery to retail. This year some of the categories have been expanded. Chief executive John Sutherland explained that its training and development awards now cover inspiring businesses as well as aspiring employees, and the award that focuses on encouraging children to eat seafood is now open not just to schools but to anyone who is involved in this hugely important field. The Craft Guild of Chefs is supporting three of the award categories: seafood restaurant of the year, seafood pub of the year and seafood chef of the year. Last time around the 'sustainable futures' award proved so popular that Seafish has now divided this award into four different categories allowing recognition of good practice in every sector of the industry. An independent judging panel will consist of some of the most senior figures in the seafood industry who are experts in their field. The winners will be announced at the awards gala dinner at the Marriott Grosvenor Square, London, on May 21 2009. • The closing date for entries is October 31 2008.
