Schools receive help to transform eating habits

28th Oct 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
Carol Savage, founder of MyDish.co.uk, is aiming to transform the eating habits of children by helping schools create their own personalised cookbooks.
With obesity levels on the rise amongst children and young people today, the MyDish scheme has been introduced as a way to get kids involved in cooking and interested in eating healthy. The UK has experienced a dramatic rise in childhood obesity. Some 16.9% of boys and 16.8% of girls aged 2-10 years in England are currently classified as obese. This is up from 9.6% and 10.3% in 1995. Participating schools will receive 100% of the profits from all sales of the books. Schools are welcome to take part as an entire school or as an individual class. The recipe books will be created with selected recipes donated by pupils including their own hand picked photographs, pictures and recipes. Savage commented on the campaign: "The Government has stated their intention to tackle the issue, but our own initiative could have a huge impact on the problem. Not only will it get kids interacting and swapping tips, bit it will help push healthy eating back to the top of the agenda." Mydish.co.uk provides an extensive selection of recipes along with details on how to create your own cookbook.
