School children to sample squirrel tomorrow

2nd Oct 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
School children in north Cornwall will be given the opportunity to sample dishes of squirrel tomorrow (3 October).
According to the BBC, chef Gareth Eddy from Da Boes restaurant in Wadebridge will be offering pupils the meat to try, which has been described as tasting like a cross between pork and rabbit. Eddy commented on the mixed bag of reactions he is expecting: "Squirrel is real food, it's readily available and it does taste good. I think the braver ones will give it a try." The chef will be marinating the squirrel meat tonight and will get some of the youngsters to help with the final cooking. The event is part of the Boscastle Festival of Food Art and Crafts, which started today (2 October) and runs until Sunday (5 October).
