Abstract
The Rhondda Cynon Taf Borough Council is to invest £400,000 in improving the quality of meals that children receive in school.
As well as a substantial investment to improve menus, the authority has also pledged £1 million to improve kitchen facilities across the county.
Councillor John David, Cabinet member for health and Adult Services was very impressed with the standard of school meals when he visited Penderyn Primary this week.
He explained: "I spoke to many of the children who were clearly enjoying their school dinners, there were a variety of healthy meals…Everyone is aware of the health problems associated with a poor diet. Getting highly nutritious meals in school will not only help them as they grow but hopefully it will encourage young minds to eat properly when they leave school."
Cabinet member for Education and Lifelong Learning Mike Forey, said: "Penderyn is just one example of many schools that are really addressing the issues of pupils diets and providing healthy meals as standard not as an option to chips."
