Abstract
The City of London Corporation has launched a new catering category for its Sustainable City Awards.
Sustainable Catering is open to all London-based catering organisations such as restaurants, schools, hospitals and events caterers, who prides themselves on reducing their impact on the environment and improving the health and wellbeing of their staff. Winners for all nine awards will be chosen by a panel of environment and sustainability experts from the Worshipful Company or Champion Organisation supporting each of the categories. The new category will judge organisations on their sustainability management and on seven principles of sustainable food including use of local seasonally-available ingredients, limiting foods of animal origin, and use of fair-trade-certified products. Ben Reynolds, London Food Link project officer at Sustain, explained: "By supporting the Sustainable City Awards we are rewarding those organisations who advocate food and agriculture policies and practices that enhance the health and welfare of people and animals, improve the working and living environment, promote equity, and therefore enrich society and culture."
