Local Bath school and restaurant team up

20th Aug 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
Children from St Martin's Garden Primary school in Bath have created their own afternoon tea menu for the local Bath Pump Room restaurant, part of the upmarket caterer Searcy.
The kids, along with pastry chef Gary Trueman and head chef Mark Pearson, worked together in decorating gingerbread men, identifying and tasting fruit and homemade pizza. The children were then given the honour of choosing heir own afternoon tea which has now been added to the restaurant's menu permanently. Dishes on the children's menu include spiral sandwiches with cheese, jam and ham fillings, honey baked sausages, cheddar cheese pineapple sticks, chocolate and coconut fairy cakes, and gingerbread men. The young chefs were the invited to sample their menu in the restaurant itself. Pearson commented: "Rather than simply creating an afternoon tea menu for children, we decided that children should create it themselves. Our aim was to make the afternoon tea offering accessible to all ages – this is especially important as our visitors range from eight to over 80."
