Gearing up for 25,000 Christmas covers

8th Nov 2007 - 00:00
Abstract
In the run-up to Christmas contractor 7 Day Catering has revealed its festive food shopping list for the 25,000 Christmas meals it plans to serve at client sites.
It includes 12,000 kg of turkey, 8,000 kg of carrots and 15,000 kg of potatoes, 8,000 kg of Brussels sprouts and 3,000 kg of Christmas Puddings. Mark Johnson, sales and marketing director at 7 Day Catering says: "Looking at the numbers, it can seem rather daunting, the sheer volume and quantity of ingredients is incredible. "Our chefs really enter into the spirit each year and keeping abreast of current eating trends is something the team sees as crucial. "These days the general public take a lot more interest in food and are far more knowledgeable. This year, leading up to Christmas, we're offering customers a three-tiered menu option – Traditional, Grab'n'Go, and Specials - which recognises the need for something quicker. "After all, we live in a 'grab-n-go' world and not everyone can take the time to sit down to a three course lunch." The Specials option takes traditional seasonal ingredients and adds a modern twist, for example sausage, sage and onion plait, turkey and cranberry hot baguettes, and chestnut and roast vegetable wraps and even turkey curry with saffron rice and poppadom. However, tradition still prevails and the full three-course Christmas menu continues to be a popular choice. Adds Johnson: "Our customers can expect more ambience, service and product quality for their money. People want to celebrate the festive season and our menus offer a really hearty warming treat, not just a basic turkey dinner. "Honey roast gammon or roasted vegetable wellington also make an appearance so there really is something for everyone." With a workforce of over 1,100 delivering full catering services to over 150 clients spread across the UK, 7 Day Catering will be providing Christmas lunches for its B&I and and higher education sector customer base.
