Frome College wins Best School Dinner title

11th Jul 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
Frome Community College in Mendip has been crowned with the Best School Dinner award by Somerset County Council.
A trophy was presented to the winning college by The Castle Hotel's chef Richard Guest, renowned for taking part in the BBC series 'The Great British Menu'. The College's menu, devised by Sodexo caterers, featured Spinach Topped Lentil and Lamb Shepherd's Pie, served with Fresh Broccoli, Carrots and Leeks. Somerset County Council invited all primary and secondary schools in Somerset to submit a description of a main course that they serve regularly to find the Best School Dinner in the County, and to help highlight the importance of healthy eating. The challenge was judged by Somerset County Council's Chairman, Alan Gloak and Dr Kath Wilson, Healthy Schools Advisor. Gloak commented on the competition: "It has been a great success for the second year running and the standard of entries have been outstanding." And for Sodexo's menu: "It showed detail to attention with the inclusion of nutrient content. Their freshly cooked meals prove their commitment to providing nutritious and mouth-watering meals to pupils." The college picked up its award at County Hall on 10 July.
