Abstract
The iconic tower block, home to Army caterers since 1968 and also for a time the home of Royal Navy and Royal Air Force caterers, is being demolished as part of the plan to provide modern, quality accommodation for single soldiers.
The old site at St Omer Barracks in Aldershot is being rebuilt as a modern campus style village for military personnel. Army chef training now takes place at the Defence Food Services School near Winchester in new facilities comprising of 12 training kitchens, a realistic working environment kitchen and dining area, lecture classrooms, IT suites and offices. The new building has been named Alexis Soyer House.
