Abstract
A leading drinks supplier has launched what they call the “world’s greenest drink packaging” to take on the backlash against non-recyclable plastics.

Oranka Juice Solutions supply fruit juices, drinks, and smoothies to the hospitality and catering sector. In a bid to cut down on plastic waste, the company have created a sustainable solution for drinks on the go.

The Pop-Up Cup is a FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified box with a bag on the inside. It is delivered flat therefore reducing storage space. The box opens by squeezing at the side and is 100% leak free. When a paper straw is pushed through the top, this unique packaging serves the company’s Grab ‘n’ Go concept.

After use the natural Kraft cardboard and plastic can be easily separated. This enables each of the materials to be easily recycled. Not only is the packaging greener, but also the storage space is reduced by 95% compared to the equivalent Tetra Pak cartons for the same amount of juice.

Managing director of Oranka Juice Solutions, Troy Smith says: “We were really keen to source a truly viable alternative to plastic bottles.” However, along with introducing a greener solution they have also kept costs down. Smith said: “We are delighted to have been able to negotiate a price which matches the cost for the recyclable bottles with the cost of the Pop-Up Cup and paper straw.”
