Daniel Cox, the 2008 Roux Scholar, has chosen to spend his three month stage, the main part of his winning prize, at El Raco de Can Fabes in Barcelona.
The three Michelin-starred restaurant is owned and run by Santi and Angels Santamaria and is a Grand Chef member of Relais et Chateaux. 26 year-old Cox, who will be joining the brigade at the beginning of September, is the second Roux Scholar to choose Spain for his stage. Along with the three month stage, Cox will be paid a weekly allowance, with travel and accommodation expenses covered by the Roux Scholarship. Other top prizes won by Cox include £5,000 in cash, courtesy of the Savoy Educational Trust, a week's paid work experience in New York, courtesy of Restaurant Associates, an expanses paid trip including travel and overnight accommodation to visit the wine cellars of Champagne Gosset at Ay for a guided tour of the production process, and a trip to visit the Caffe Musetti roasting factory in Milan. Cox is also now a member of the Roux Scholars club, which meets on a regular basis and goes on educational trips to other countries. The Roux Scholarship is being supported by British Airways Inflight Service, Castello Monte Vibiano Extra Virgin Oil, Direct Seafoods, and Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London.
