Cygnet Foods Convert 2 Green

24th Apr 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Cygnet Catering and Compact Catering, divisions of Cygnet Foods Ltd, are working with Convert2Green, a Cheshire based bio-energy company, on a green initiative to turn waste cooking oil in to bio-fuel.
This initiative, part of Cygnet Foods' enactment of IS0 14001 environmental management system, utilises the bio-fuel in Cygnet's fleet of commercial vehicles delivering school meals, and to drive a new combined heat and power system (CHP) at their central food production unit in Nottingham. Convert2Green, who operate from Middlewich, manage the oil collection from across Cygnet's catering estate and undertake the processing to bio-fuel, returning the green fuel for use within the company's road transport and power systems. This initiative will deliver Cygnet a guaranteed fully sustainable fuel source and an 85% reduction in their lifecycle carbon footprint. This is made possible, not only from the use of Cygnet's own waste oil, but due to the environmentally focused Convert2Green operation, which uses bio-fuel in its production, power and transport systems. Convert2Green works in partnership with a number of key clients in the food and hospitality industry, including food wholesaler/distributor 3663, Robinsons Family Brewers and Cygnet Foods Ltd.
