Charles visits kitchens of Royal Brompton Hospital

5th Feb 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
The Prince of Charles will be touring the kitchens of The Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea to learn about the locally sourced and organically produced food served to patients.
As well as getting an insight into locally sourced produce, the prince will be meeting staff and those being treated, and will be attending a healthy eating seminar. This is part of the 'good food on the public plate' project which aims to increase the amount of local, seasonal and organic foods available in hospitals, schools and care homes in the South East. Charles is a strong advocate of organically grown and locally sourced produce and has run his Duchy Home Farm in Gloucestershire without pesticides or artificial fertiliser since 1986. The Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK and among the biggest in Europe. Dishes served by the hospitals catering staff include Cream of Leek and Potato Soup, created with Vegetables from a Kent farm, and Salmon and Cucumber Salad made with Organic Scottish Fish.
