Abstract
Catering company Absolute Taste – whose clients include Formula 1, Fever Tree and the British Grand Prix – has announced a deal with tech company Omnitude, to enable customers to “track the complete provenance of the food” they are served.

Designed to “ensure trust within its entire supply structure,” Absolute Taste will integrate Omnitude’s blockchain middleware platform into its existing systems.

This will allow it to communicate with end-customers about the provenance of the food on their plate - be it the fisherman who line caught its salmon or the farm that reared its beef.

As well as providing the catering for events such as Formula 1; The British Grand Prix at Silverstone; Fever Tree Championships at Queens; and The Volvo Round The World Yacht Race, Absolute Taste also works in restaurants, cafés and hospitality services across a number of UK locations.

Managing director Gary Kennerley said: “Absolute Taste is very excited to be partnering with Omnitude. It is a company that has always sought to provide innovation to all of its clients, and we always harness the latest in technology innovation to further enrich their experience.

“Historically, the provenance of the produce we use is expressed to customers through a few words on a menu. However, our partnership with Omnitude will give those eating our food a far deeper experience at our events and venues.

“Each item on the menu will have a unique, trusted, verifiable journey that customers can explore. It’s part of our commitment to cutting edge cuisine that is customer-centric and deeply personalized, as well as fitting perfectly with our philosophy of taking the story behind our produce very seriously.”

Omnitude chief executive, Chris Painter, added: “We are really beginning to see the variety of applications that blockchain can be applied to, along with how they will directly affect our everyday lives.

“In using blockchain to track catering provenance, we will enrich the dining experience of Absolute Taste’s millions of customers.”
