Bupa Care Homes launches virtual cruise

3rd Jul 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
Bupa Care Homes has launched a 'virtual' cruise to take older people from across the country on an imaginary tour of the Mediterranean.
Next week, the 'virtual cruisers' will land at Cannes, France, where over 180 Bupa care homes will be inviting older people from their local communities to join them. Over 12,000 people have been invited to visit Cannes, where they will then move on to tour Mallorca, Rome, Crete and Cairo. From Champagne and canapés, to cheese and wine tasting evenings, all the homes will be transforming their menus to introduce traditional dishes. Dean Cowley, director of Bupa Care Comes, commented on the reasons behind launching this event: "With many of our residents unable to go on holiday this summer, a virtual cruise provides a great opportunity to experience the customs and cultures of different countries, and what better way than sampling the national dish." Unilever Bestfoods UK, producer5s of the Knorr brand and Premier Foods, have sponsored the event and have also provided the homes with a series of Mediterranean recipes. Events taking part on the boat will include deck games and 'onboard' entertainers.
