Birmingham School Feast to launch

16th Jul 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
A new training scheme for teachers, school cooks and teaching assistants will be launching tomorrow (17 July) at Bournville College in Birmingham as part of a £220 million overhaul of school meals.
Birmingham School Feast (Food Excellence Skills and Training) Centre has joined forces with Bournville College and Birmingham City Council to provide a wide range of training and support to all those involved in providing healthier school meals to local pupils. Renowned TV cook Prue Leith OBE (pictured) and Jeanette Orrey, the dinner lady behind Jamie Oliver, will be launching the Birmingham Regional Feast Centre to a crowd of around 100 visitors from schools, government organisations and catering companies. Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, said the centres were "another leap forward" towards healthy school meals. Weblink: www.schoolfeast.co.uk
