Applications can be found at http://www.athoughtforfood.co.uk/ or at www.portsmouth.co.uk. Four finalists will be chosen to cook live on stage with top chef Lawrence Murphy from Fat Olives Restaurant, Emsworth, in The Village 'Demonstration' Theatre at the festival. Each finalist will present Murphy with a goodie bag of local ingredients from a pre-selected list and will prepare with the renowned chef a main course suitable for a dinner party at home. The budding chefs will each get 45 minutes with Murphy live on stage in front of a panel of judges led by the news restaurant critic Carol Godsmark. The winning chef will be chosen based on their kitchen skills and their passion for food and will not only win the 'You CAN Cook' Amateur chef 2008 title, but will also walk away with prizes including Dinner for two at Fat Olives, a year's membership of Hampshire Fare, and a six bottle case of Canard-Duchene Champagne. All four finalists will receive a Co-op food hamper as well as tickets to A Thought for Food. The event, taking place on 7 September, is being supported by the Co-op on partnership with Fat Olives Restaurant and The News.
