The School Food Trust launches Million Meals film

05/08/2009 - 00:00
The School Food Trust has released a new Million Meals film to provide advice and support to help increase lunch take-up in schools.

The campaign's aim is to have a million more children eating school dinners by 2010. The film features Sprowston Community High School and shows how the different elements of the campaign can be used throughout the school day. It includes footage of the school council discussing how to improve their meal service using the Work up an appetite for change pack, teachers using the canteen with pupils, and catering staff preparing food and talking about how much they value pupil's feedback about their meal service. It also highlights the range of resources available to schools and shows them using the Million Meals tool to help schools track the take up of school meals. This free and simple-to-use tool has been developed to allow schools to simply keep a record of the numbers eating a school meal every day. It also allows them to set progress goals to increase this number and to plot progress against these goals. It costs nothing to sign up to the campaign and once schools do so they will make a commitment to implement small changes, at their own pace, which will have a big impact on the take-up of their school lunches. They will receive free resources and advice which will help them make continuous improvements to their school meal provision to ensure the health, wellbeing and educational attainment of their students.
