Less than a month to sign up for National Doughnut Week

15/04/2019 - 08:19
Caterers have less than a month left to sign up for National Doughnut Week, taking places from 11 – 18 May.

Sponsored by CSM Bakery Solutions, it raises funds for The Children’s Trust, a charity for children with brain injuries. It has been running for 28 years, after being launched in 1991 by independent baker, Christopher Freeman.

Caterers who register to get involved in the week will receive a special pack full of promotional materials from CSM with everything they need to make the most of the occasion and raise as much money as possible through sales of delicious doughnuts.

Last year during National Doughnut Week £33,679 was raised for The Children’s Trust.

CSM has shared some of its top tips on how to make the most of the opportunity!

Fun themes

A great way to create excitement in store is to focus on a different theme each year and create doughnuts within this theme, costumes for staff and decorations outside. This helps to raise awareness of the activity and drive further sales. Last year many bakers chose to create a Royal Wedding themed doughnut, inspired by the news agenda at the time.

Customer competitions

Another fantastic way to raise even more funds is by holding a raffle or competitions in store for customers to get involved in. Offering everyone who buys a doughnut a chance to win a prize can increase sales. It’s important to be creative to maximise on the opportunity to raise money and sell as many doughnuts as possible, creating a real buzz.

Promotions and offers

Offer deals such as ‘a doughnut and a hot drink for £1’, or a meal deal which includes a doughnut, to encourage sales from customers who wouldn’t usually purchase one. Ensure you use the point of sale kit provided by CSM to communicate the key messages behind National Doughnut Week and The Children’s Trust to help raise as many funds as possible.

Social media

Social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are fantastic for driving awareness of your activities during the week. Run competitions on social media and post pictures of your delicious creations to encourage people to enter the store. Follow ‘National Doughnut Week’ on Facebook, @DoughnutWeek on Twitter and @NationalDoughnutWeek on Instagram for creative ideas. Make sure you tag the official channels in your posts and use #NationalDoughnutWeek to encourage engagement.
