Abstract
The Scotland Food & Drink has appointed a project manager to help food and drink businesses make the most of the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and Homecoming in 2014.

Fiona Richmond takes up the role following two years working in Scotland Food & Drink’s UK market development programme. Her strong background in working with food and drink producers and the major food service companies provides a platform to shape the food and drink offering at major events in 2014.

As 2014 project manager, Richmond will be the key link between food and drink businesses and the opportunities presented by the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and Homecoming, during which millions of meals will be served.

Richmond said:  “2014 is a landmark year for Scotland and an unprecedented opportunity to showcase our nation as a Land of Food and Drink. I am excited to lead the project on behalf of Scotland Food & Drink and partners, to ensure we capitalise on a year of incredible opportunity.”

Environment secretary Richard Lochhead added: “The stage is set for 2014 to be a truly spectacular year for Scottish food and drink. With the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and the Year of Homecoming all taking place in Scotland in that year, there will be unprecedented opportunities to showcase our food and drink to the world, broaden the market for our goods overseas and boost our already booming export market.

“The appointment of Fiona, with her experience in Scotland’s food and drink sector, to manage the 2014 Action Plan will ensure the industry capitalises on the substantial economic opportunity the events will offer through liaison with major food operators and suppliers.”
