Abstract
Kent-based school caterer, Independent Catering, is celebrating after retaining its Soil Association’s Food for Life Served Here silver award.

Catering for circa 50 schools each day, Food for Life praised the company for its “fresh, local and honest meals,” which “go beyond meeting the School Food Standards.”

Independent Catering managing director, Andrew Saunders, commented: “We are delighted to have been re-awarded the Food for Life Served Here silver award despite its more robust criteria, which underlines (Independent Catering’s) absolute passion for serving food that is ethically sourced and loved by students.”

As such, the company prides itself on using UK meat accredited by the RSCPA or Red Tractor only, serving local, seasonal food with no preservatives, and encouraging students to make healthier choices. It also claims all of its meals are a minimum of 75% freshly prepared.

Head of development at Food for Life, Ian Nutt, added: “Food for Life Served Here caterers are leading the way in improving food culture in schools.

“Achieving a Food for Life Served Here Award is a fantastic accomplishment and a true reflection of a caterers’ commitment to serving school meals that are nutritious as well as tasty.

“We know that good food is a crucial part of the school day and with fresh, healthy meals being served, students are equipped with the fuel they need for their learning and development."
