Abstract
Celebrity MasterChef winner and former rugby star Phil Vickery has been appointed a patron of industry charity Hospitality Action (HA), it was revealed yesterday (28 January).

With a passion for food, farming and inspiring healthy lifestyle choices, especially among the young, Vickery has long been an active supporter of Hospitality Action, partaking in its annual Le Tour de Cuisine, Cotswold Cycle Challenge and Rugby Legends fundraising dinner.

He joins existing patrons including chefs Tom Kerridge, Michael Caines and principal patron Jason Atherton.

As non-executive director at independent foodservice wholesaler, Creed Foodservice, HA said Vickery understands the “varying needs of the industry and is well placed to help (it) reach its fundraising goals across 2019 and beyond.”

Vickery said: “I am going to be much more than a name on the letterhead.

“Hospitality is a fast paced, high-energy field to work in, and is dependent on team work and communication - things I am all too familiar with.

“My unique take on the industry means I am going to do everything I can to raise awareness of Hospitality Action and motivate others to get involved as well.”

Mark Lewis, HA chief executive, added: “We’re all very excited to officially welcome Phil to the Hospitality Action family.

“(His) sporting prowess, commitment and unstoppable drive will be a real asset. With UK hospitality set for an uncertain time, one thing will remain set in stone - HA will be there to lend a helping hand when times get tough and it is fantastic to know we can rely on Phil’s support throughout.”
