FSA launches food framework for children

20th Dec 2007 - 00:00
Abstract
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has recently published a framework of core skills and knowledge to help children make healthy food choices now and in the future.
The framework applies to young people aged between 5 and 16+ and focuses on topics including diet and health, consumer awareness, and cooking and food safety. It also encompasses wider food issues reflecting the views of both the FSA and those who responded to the consultation that was carried out during the development work. The initiative applies to all learning experiences, both within and outside the school setting, and can be met at home or through other activities. In addition, the framework will be promoted through a UK-wide network of existing practitioners, and is already working through schemes such as FSA What's Cooking Programme, the Cooking Bus, and Healthy Schools Programmes.
