Encore serves afternoon tea at First World War commemorative afternoon
Abstract
Encore Hospitality Services, Cordia’s catering arm, served up afternoon tea for 12 Glaswegians born during the First World War at a special commemorative tea party held at the KG Café in Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

During the event each of the 12 invited guests, who were accompanied by both a relative and Cordia home carer, were presented with commemorative packs, which included replica postcards, stamps and other items common during the First World War.

Cordia’s managing director, David Melvin said: “It’s an honour to host these esteemed guests, each of whom is a credit to us all.

“Commemorating the First World War is extremely important both for Cordia as an organisation, but for the city a whole. Many of our citizens paid the ultimate sacrifice and this should never be forgotten.

“I speak on behalf of everyone at Cordia when I say I hope each of our clients and their guests who attended today’s event enjoyed themselves.”

The group, with a combined age of 1205, featured five pensioners aged 99, three centenarians, one aged 101, two aged 102 and 105-year-old Margaret Miller.

Margaret Miller said: "I've thoroughly enjoyed my day today. It brought back a lot of fond memories from the past and it was nice to share it with my daughter Jean.”

The commemorative afternoon tea project is one of many being undertaken by Cordia, Encore and other city council ALEOs to help mark the centenary and duration of the First World War over the next three years until 2019.
