Abstract
Foodservice firm Compass Group UK & Ireland is ‘celebrating’ a successful Culinary World Cup, after its chefs won seven silver and four medals at the global culinary contest, EXPOGAST (24-28 November).

Hosted by Luxembourg for 2018, the prestigious event takes place every four years and sees chefs from countries across the world, including the USA, Canada, Hong Kong and Malaysia, battle it out over the five days.

30 national and 15 junior teams took part this year, with Compass chefs competing in its own regional team as well as the English national team – coached by culinary director for Compass Group UK & Ireland, Nick Vadis.

Vadis said: “I am extremely proud of all our (Compass) chefs who either supported or competed in the Culinary World Cup.

“To have chefs competing as individuals, a regional team and also the National Team England, is a credit to our business and to our investment in nurturing talent in the UK.

“They are all true ambassadors for their craft, and I would like to thank each and every one of them for their commitment, skill and dedication.”

Graham Singer - culinary director for Compass Scotland and captain of the Compass regional team - added: The strength and success of the Compass Culinary team at EXPOGAST 2018 came from each and every person in the team.

“The passion, drive and commitment they each gave over the five days was truly amazing.

“As individuals we can achieve, but together we can achieve so much more. Everyone played their part in securing such an incredible result.

“I am extremely proud of what each and every one of the Compass culinary team achieved.”

Between the seven Compass chefs who competed at EXPOGAST 2018, they took home a total of 11 medals across both the hot kitchen and cold buffet challenges.
