Abstract
Foodservice wholesaler, Bidfood, has partnered with plant-based innovation brand Moving Mountains to distribute its meatless ‘bleeding’ burger to 200 hospitals, schools and universities.

The zero cholesterol burger is 100% plant-based but sizzles, tastes and smells like real meat.

David Kinder, head of food at Bidfood, said: “We’re delighted to be able to provide the Moving Mountains burger to more people than ever before.

“Bidfood is continuously looking to supply schools and hospitals with great tasting food that boasts genuine health benefits and this new deal is a great example of that.”

The base of the burger is oyster mushrooms, with pea, wheat and soy protein, in addition beetroot to produce the ‘bleed’ and coconut oil, oats and vitamin B12 to create the consistency and structure as well as ‘essential’ nutrients.

The company worked with a team of chefs, scientists and farmers for three years to produce over 300 test recipes before creating the burger, which it believes will be one of the ‘most impactful food inventions of the century and represents a more sustainable solution to mass meat farming’.

Simeon Van Der Molen, CEO of Moving Mountains added: “The new supply deal with a distributor the size of Bidfood marks a huge milestone for Moving Mountains.

“Our ambition since launch has been to provide a more sustainable alternative to meat for the health of people as well as the planet, and distributing into universities, hospitals and school is an important step in making this happen.”

Available from all of Bidfood’s 23 depots across the UK, the Moving Mountains® Burger is supplied in frozen in packs of 20 patties, and can be shallow fried in just four minutes on each side. Once cooked, it is as versatile as a traditional beef burger and can be served in a bun with toppings and fries in the same way.
